Anna Hazare, other activists to be released tonight from Tihar Jail approx at 9:15pm

By Admin   Posted at  8:40 PM   India Against Corruption (IAC)

New Delhi:  Anna Hazare, and his fellow activists will be released tonight from Tihar Jail. The Delhi Police have sent their release warrants to the jail authorities. Huge crowds have gathered outside the Tihar Jail in West Delhi in support of Anna.

The anti-corruption crusader was lodged in a normal cell in jail no 4. Ironically, among the more well-known residents of jail no. 4 is Suresh Kalmadi, charged with large-scale corruption in Commonwealth Games projects. To add to the irony, Mr Hazare's fellow-activist and Magsaysay award winner Arvind Kejriwal is in a jail that houses DMK leader A Raja, also in jail on charges of corruption in the 2G scam. (Read: Who is Anna Hazare?)

The pressure showed when jail authorities sought to make clear that Anna Hazare and Suresh Kalmadi shared only a jail, not a ward. Director General, Prisons, Neeraj Kumar said Mr Hazare's ward was in fact some distance away from that of Mr Kalmadi. He also said that Mr Hazare had been given tight security, had been medically examined and was well.

The 74-year-old Hazare and two key members of his team - Mr Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia - have been sent to seven days in judicial custody because they refused to apply for bail after being arrested in the capital today. All three are fasting.

Two more key members of Team Anna - Kiran Bedi and Shanti Bhushan - were charged under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, which does not mandate custody. They were  released from detention earlier this evening.

In cities, big and small, across the country, angry people have taken to the streets in protest against Anna Hazare's arrest. Thousands have been detained, over 8,400 in Delhi alone, claims India Against Corruption (IAC), a citizen's movement to demand strong anti-corruption laws.

Anna's appeal to countrymen

On the eve of Anna’s proposed indefinite fast he called upon the people of the country to come and join him in the fight against corruption. He questioned the relevance of the Independence that our freedom fighters achieved after several sacrifices, when millions in this country are still dying of starvation. He assured that if the Jan lokpal comes then 60-65  percent of corruption will be eradicated.
He said the purpose of the protest is not to bring down any govt, the system needs to be changed not the govt. He said if he is not allowed to protest and is arrested, the countrymen should be ready for ‘Jail Bharo’. He appealed the people to come out on the streets and protest peacefully and not to resort to any sort of violence, not cause inconvenience to public or damage public or private property.
He said the common man is suffering from rising food prices because of black marketing and hoarding and the government is still not listening to common man’s voice. He said national natural resources are being exploited and the money is going to capitalists. Farmers’ lands are being snatched from and is going to brokers and builders, isn’t it corruption?  Anna said lot of students are coming out in support of Jan Lokpal because they are also suffering because of corruption. People with money manage to secure seats in collges while deserving students do not get admission. He said it is the young generation’s support that gives him hope that the corrupt system will change. He expressed confidence that Jan Lokpal will be a reality and he is ready to forsake his life for the country.
Meanwhile, in a clear violation of our constitutional right to peacefully protest, the government has denied Anna Hazare the permission to hold indefinite fast at JP Park, which initially was proposed by Delhi Police itself. The reason which the Delhi Police has cited to allow us to protest at Jay Prakash Narayan Park is not accepting 6 unconstitutional conditions they have put in the 22 point undertaking. Delhi police was given an undertaking on all the lawful provisions they had sought. Out of the 22, undertaking was given on 16 provisions. We mention below the 6 provisions which we refused to accept and why:
-          a guarantee that not more than 50 vehicles will be parked. while parking area can accommodate many more vehicles.
-          that not more than 5000 people will gather although the capacity of the park is in excess of 20,000.
-          the protest will be for only three days, while we have sought indefinite.
-          there will be no tent or protection for the assembly of people, this will make it extremely uncomfortable for the public, should there be rainfall or other severe weather conditions, that wish to join the protest
-          that a government doctor will examine Anna to decide whether he is in danger and needs to be taken away. We want an independent doctor to continuously examine Anna, as was done during the fast in April.
-          That there will be no loudspeaker or amplified audio facilities. This would put a large crowd in danger, as no instructions can be given to maintain order in case too many people gather.
We reject these conditions as they are a clear violation of our fundamental rights.
One more reason they cited was that we do not have the permission from the land owning agency, while when they agreed upon the venue the Police itself had assured us that they will help us getting the permission from CPWD.
Anna said the fast will go on as planned and that if he is stopped from holding a peaceful protest at the venue he will court arrest.

A Call To YOUNGISTAN on This Independence Day..!

A Call To YOUNGISTAN on This Independence Day..!

CELEBRATING ITS 64th Independence Day, on this Monday, (August 15), India has come a long way since 1947, with a mixture of both success and failure. The next decade is going to be extremely critical for our nation. Youth problems, corruption many things that we still‘ve to face. If everything falls in place then we might eradicate few really tricky problems that are gripping our country. This will bring more prosperity and peace to the country. India’s biggest assets are its people. The underlying potential of our nation’s youth needs to be unleashed. “As young citizens of India we must realize that the development of this nation is wholly dependent on us.  The development of a strong nation demands youth possessing steely will power, mighty determination and tremendous grit. To date, there has been a lot of cribbing and complaint. It’s not only just about to be a good citizen but also Cyber citizen of India.”
It is time to act and do something constructive. The best thing that we can do is to bring some changes in the life of one person in our lifetime. If all of us can do this then the entire state of the nation can be given a new life. And let me tell you that this is not a difficult or impossible task. What is required is a motivation and willingness to contribute to the nation’s progress. We must make a start at least. You will find many guides and commentators in this nation. These people always appreciate/criticize what others are doing but will always show inability to do something themselves. These set of people must also understand that lip service is good for gossip but cannot serve any purpose. We must set goals for our life. We are here to make some changes. We must decide what we want to leave for the coming generation. It is our responsibility to hand over a better nation to our children. If we fail to do so we will be labeled villains by the coming generation.
Though problems plague India, there are solutions. A steely resolve can certainly provide answers to all riddles. Instead of blaming the system, young India should come together and mould our nation for a better tomorrow. Instead of asking questions, we must give solutions to the problems of corruption with good administrators, professionals, soldiers, education, population, environment, and leaders. There was a line in the film, Rang De Basanti: “Koi Bhi Desh Perfect Nahi Hota, Use Perfect Banana Padta Hai” (no country is perfect, we have to make it perfect).”
It’s a Call to YOUNGISTAN on This Independence Day: In order to make our nation perfect, the youth (We) must get involved in every sphere they belong to – be it may be the IAS, IPS, Engineers, Doctors, defense, politics, or education, etc. Now the youth of this nation must start a freedom struggle to secure independence from poverty and corruption. We must enlighten ourselves. The feeling of patriotism clubbed with morality, ethics and social responsibility will definitely make our nation great. Let us unite together and make this nation great. It’s a call to Youngistan, Please respond to it know & take your own responsibility to show the world that:”Jaha Daal Daal Par Sone Ki Chidiaya Karti He Basera Woh Bharat Desh He Mera”
PROUD to be an INDIAN.
